Oxford University Ceilidh Band
The University of Oxford's student society for folk musicians
Welcome! Our society has two main roles: we serve as both an introduction to folk music and the wider Oxford folk music scene for students wanting to get involved, and as a student ceilidh band, available to book for events, made up of some of our more experienced musicians and callers.
At our regular term-time Tuesday evening rehearsals, we play through our tune book of music from the British Isles and further afield in a relaxed environment open to all instruments and all abilities. This is followed by a session at the Royal Blenheim, where you have a chance to put our tune book away and play in a more traditional environment, and pick up tunes from a wide variety of players. Our termly public ceilidhs provide a welcoming space for our members looking to play in the band or call dances for the first time.
As a student ceilidh band, we are available to hire during (or close to) Oxford term time for gigs within walking/cycling distance of Oxford city centre. We play for college events, birthday parties, weddings, and more. We also have a charity rate for a limited number of charity ceilidhs per term. If you are interested in booking us, please fill out our booking request form.
You can find out about our upcoming events on our Instagram and Facebook pages. If you'd like to get in touch, you can email us at contact@oucb.co.uk.
